My priorities in the European Parliament

Your voice in Europe!

For Christian Democratic values

Enough of left-wing experiments – Europe must return to its roots.

For a safe and prosperous European Union

We need a strong economy and a sensible green transition. We must do more for our own security.

For a firmer migration policy

Europe must secure its borders and stand up firmly for our way of life.

About me

From Tuhinj to Brussels

Politics has been part of my life since childhood. As a boy, I watched the evening news with my father every day, we put up posters around Kamnik together, and I followed his work on the municipal council. When Andrej Bajuk, founder and first President of New Slovenia – Christian Democrats (NSi), came to Kamnik, I went to his lecture. He said: “Now it is up to you, the young generation, to take Slovenia forward.” That is how I joined New Slovenia.

In 2006 I became a municipal councillor and later a Member of the National Assembly. In 2018 I took over the leadership of the party and led it into the parliamentary elections — we improved our result and won seven seats, and I became Speaker of the National Assembly.

In 2024 I was elected to the European Parliament. I work for a more competitive European economy, a sensible green transition, a firmer migration policy and stronger EU defence capabilities.

An MEP’s working rhythm follows the European Parliament’s calendar. I am usually in Brussels from Monday to Thursday, and in Strasbourg during plenary sessions. Fridays are usually devoted to work in Slovenia.

I am a member of the Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats) – the EPP Group – which brings together centre-right and conservative Members of the European Parliament. The EPP Group is the largest political group in the European Parliament.

In the committees, I cover the following important files:

  • rapporteur for the defence omnibus,
  • rapporteur on North Macedonia’s progress,
  • rapporteur on the disposal of spent nuclear fuel,
  • rapporteur on the review of CO2 emission targets for light commercial vehicles.
